THE FUSION SERIES - JOY CHAIR
Joy - The emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure; elation.
This unique one of a kind acrylic fusion inspired armchair is a collaboration with award winning cabinet maker, David Watson.
The beautifully crafted armchair features a mesmerising hand painted acrylic fusion technique across the European Oak framework. The paint is an infusion of colours meticulously poured over the arms and legs of the armchair to create an eye-catching dripping paint look which was then finished with a matte varnish.
Craig began working on the furniture artwork during lockdown as a way of introducing positivity and excitement in his life during such a period when most hobbies and activities were forbidden; hence the theme of “Joy”.
The laser cut plywood typography of the word "JOY" is hand painted in various sizes representing the many exciting moments in life that can bring us so much joy. The three dimensional typography is attached to the underside of the legs and arms of the chair in turn creating a 360 degree experience of the furniture artwork.
The framework of the armchair crafted by cabinet maker David Watson is inspired by the structure of the Finnieston Crane based in Scotland, the largest remaining cantilever structure built to load locomotives onto ships for export around the world.
With a unique free rotating back covered in faux fur fabric, designed to maximise lumber support and comfort, this extremely comfortable armchair is completely handcrafted using a combination of traditional and modern techniques to create a simple yet engaging design.
Combining their love of craft and passion for art, this collaboration has created a wonderful piece of furniture artwork.
